FAQs

01
What is an OKR?

OKR (Objectives and key results) is a productivity enhancement business approach. In this approach organisations set measurable goals (Objectives). And then break it down into outcomes (Key results). These key areas are specific, measurable and time-bound.

This approach helps organisations track and measure their strategic goals' achievement.

OKR implementation process helps organisations in aligning their goals and day today activities. It helps managers as well as employees recognise productive VS non-productive activities.

02
What is KPI?

KPI stands for "Key Performance Indicator." These are the most vital measurements to gauge how well the organisation is doing.

For example -

An example of a KPI is "monthly sales growth," which measures the increase in sales over a month.

Other KPIs could be-- 'customer satisfaction score,' 'employee turnover rate,' 'website traffic,' and 'net profit margin.'

These performance indicators help us understand how well we are doing in achieving our goals. If the numbers don't match with set targets, corrective action can be taken in real time.

03
What is the difference between OKR and KPIs?

They are closely related. And both are important for implementation of OKR in an organisation.

Let us explain -

OKRs are over-arching goals and key result areas focussing on ambitious and measurable goals. These are set quarterly or annually. And are often ambitious. With an intent to achieve about 60-70%. The aim of OKR is to align the entire orgnisation to achieve common goals.

For example, the Objective can be to increase the organisation's annual sales revenue by 30%.

Now to achieve this objective Key Areas could be -

  • Key Result 1: Grow new customer acquisition by 20%
  • Key Result 2: Increase average order value by 15%
  • Key Result 3: Shortening the sales cycle from 45 days to 36 days

While these are set, it is important to monitor and track that the organisation is moving towards these goals and Key Results through the year.

That's where KPI comes in.

  • 1. KPIs are measured weekly or monthly.
  • 2. These are numbers that tell us whether we are achieving our goals.

For example, for the above key areas the tracking metrics could be--

Monthly Sales Growth: Measuring the percentage increase in sales revenue each month compared to the same month in the previous year.

New Customer Acquisition Rate: Tracking the number of new customers acquired each month and comparing it to the target.

Average lead to conversion days each quarter: Monitoring the average amount spent per order and aiming to increase it by 15%.

04
Should SME businesses implement OKRs?

We believe OKRs are even more important for small and medium businesses.

The reason-- Entrepreneurs often don't have industry benchmarks. In such scenarios, working on internal benchmarks and improving these continuously helps SME business owners.

Also, a well-aligned business helps business owners in getting the best ROI from their limited resources and smaller teams.

It also helps the business owners make informed decisions rather than relying on gut feeling which is often not correct.

05
Are OKRs affordable for small and medium enterprises?

Your concern is genuine. Over the years, implementing and tracking OKRs needed special platforms, as well as senior HR people to get the best ROI from these investments and efforts. So in India only bigger organisations went for it. But things have changed dramatically now.

We have natively integrated OKRs into OpportuneHR HRMS system! Which means you don't need to invest in a separate platform. And you pay only as per your usage and employee strengths. So it is affordable even for SME and startup organisations.
